Energy Management

ISO50001 was published in 2011 to assist organisations in implementing structured, sustainable Energy Management Systems (EnMS) to deliver savings in energy, emissions and money. To date over 20,000 organisations have successfully implemented systems that have been certified to ISO50001.

A recent study in the US found that companies which implemented EnMS compliant with ISO50001 as part of the US Department of Energy Superior Energy Performance programme, delivered average savings of 10% within 18 months with a 2 year payback for companies spending >€1.5m on energy annually. 75% of the savings delivered were low cost measures requiring no capital investment.

Zero Carbon have assisted organisations in Ireland, China, Turkey, Ukraine, Egypt, Uzbekistan, Morocco and Pakistan to implement ISO50001 compliant EnMS.

We would be happy to help you implement a structured Energy Management System in your organisation in order to save money, improve corporate social responsibility, and meet the requirements of SI426

Energy Audits

The objective of an Energy Audit is to:

- Determine the energy performance of a facility or item of plant
- Identify and Quantify the Principal Energy flows
- Identify & Quantify achievable energy savings
- Produce costed recommendations to achieve energy cost savings
- Make recommendations on the future energy management of the facility

This may examine boiler plant. heating/cooling systems, ventilation, building fabric, lighting, electricity use and energy management systems. The audit will produce no cost, low cost and high cost recommendations with payback calculations.

To date Zero Carbon have carried out over 200 audits on behalf of a wide range of commercial, industrial and public sector organisations. We employ a 'System Optimisation' approach to optimise the solution for the entire energy system as opposed to focusing on individuals within the system.

Energy Audits can be carried out to ensure compliance with the legislative requirements in SI426 as our Energy Auditors are registered with SEAI.

Measurement and Verification

Measurement & Verification (M&V) is an important part of any Energy Efficiency project or Energy Management Program.

For ISO50001 compliance, companies must verify the Continuous Improvement of their Energy Performance. This can be complicated, and may, on occasion, required specific M&V skills.

Energy Efficiency projects should always be analysed post implementation to confirm that they have successfully achieved the savings they were designed to achieve. Again, this may require particular M&V analytical skills.

M&V is particularly important for Energy Performance Contract where payments to the contractor depend on the savings generated by the project. This often requires specialist M&V skills.

Zero Carbon are qualified to track energy savings according to the International Performance Measurement & Verification Protocol.

Energy Efficient Design

Energy Efficient Design (EED) will save on energy costs and often also reduces capital expenditure. SEAI are currently promoting EED for buildings and processes through their Excellence in Energy Efficiency Design (EXEED) programme with grant funding of up to €1,000,000 https://www.seai.ie/grants/business-grants/exeed-certified-grant/.

Zero Carbon has been employed on 5 EXEED projects to date. We can help your business design better buildings and processes that use 'outside the box' thinking to drive energy and capital savings, improve corporate social responsibility and avail of SEAI grant funding.

Zero Carbon has carried out Project Design and Project Management for many clients over the past 10 years including projects involving:

- Lighting & Lighting Controls
- Heat Pumps
- Insulation
- Heating and Heating Controls
- Solar Panels

Zero Carbon has also been successful in applications for SEAI grants totalling over €2million.
